The mission for the developer position is to take technical ownership of the HackMotion e-Commerce platform serving more than 2 million yearly visitors with an annual 3x growth rate.
You will join the web team of a UI/UX Designer and Product Manager. You will be in charge of shaping and developing our e-commerce platform. This includes creating a high-quality interactive user experience, backend services, and integrations and maintaining and scaling our server infrastructure.
Your success will be defined by your ability to implement new features to reach our business goals.
At the core of our e-commerce platform is a combination of WordPress and WooCommerce. However, as the platform scales, we are progressively transitioning to distributed services on Google Cloud. Currently, we use Cloud Run functions for individual services and Pub/Sub for message delivery. Most excitingly, you will have a direct influence on shaping our future direction. We firmly believe in using the best tool for the job, and this setup allows us to do just that. This is your opportunity to build something lasting and deliver real value to both our clients and the company.
Your tasks:
- Implement new and iterate on existing front-end features;
- Implement new backend services to automate operations, collect and send usage data, interact with 3rd party tools, and exchange data with the HackMotion app;
- Maintain and scale web infrastructure to handle the growing visitor base;
What we expect:
- Experience with building web applications as a full-stack PHP developer.
- Experience developing interactive UI/UX.
- Understanding of code design patterns.
- Basic understanding of server architecture principles.
- Great English communication skills (both verbally and in written form).
- Experience in or enthusiasm to learn cloud platforms such as Google Cloud Platform (GCP) and Typescript/Go/Python to develop more complex projects would be great to have.

We will go through the details of your previous experience. You will be able to share the details for each position/project you have taken part. This usually takes ~1h. Depending on the position we might give a homework task at the end of the interview.

Our journey so far
Company founded
HackMotion was created to improve the experience of learning skill-based activities with a virtual coach. Our early prototypes did full-body motion capture and were tested in extreme environments such as snowboarding and even skydiving in vertical wind tunnels.
First product launch
The first HackMotion product was built and launched in 2018. It was targeted to the golf professional niche - golf coaches and advanced players.
HackMotion adoption among golf pros
HackMotion golf product quickly gains traction and gets widespread adoption among top industry professionals. These include true superstars, such as the coaches of Rory McIlroy (former world rank No. 1) and Dustin Johnson (winner of 6 world cups).
HackMotion Golf Player version launch
Based on learnings gained working with golf professionals the HackMotion Golf Player version was launched and quickly gained momentum. Within the first year, thousands of products were shipped across 5 continents allowing rapid scaling of the business.
Becoming a global sports wearable leader
Our ambition for upcoming years is to continue significant expansion in the golf consumer segment as well as expand to the next niches such as baseball (where we already have launched a product). Our goal is to be the world's No. 1 in virtual coaching wearables.
Our office
Most of our team members work in a remote-office mix, however, we make sure that we have a great & creative place to meet and interact with each other. However, this does not mean that we have a standard boring office. Our office is located in the vary city center in the scenic Kronvalda Park. We have literally one of the greatest views in Riga. We share the building with The Art Academy of Latvia, so there are always creative attractions in the hallway.
Also, we have an indoor golf simulator to always be able to test our products as well as have a little fun.
